On Friday February 3, 2023, Quaid-i-Azam University School of Law organized a symposium on Family Law in Pakistan in collaboration with Lahore-based Centre for Human Rights. Two research papers on Delegated Divorce and Punjab Sikh Marriage Act 2018 were presented in this symposium. Authors Shafaq Farooq and Hania Raffat covered various aspects of their research papers and highlighted the complexities found in the relevant laws. The distinguished panel of discussants included Member Punjab Assembly Sardar Ramesh Singh Arora, Mr. Manzoor Mesih Member National Commission for Human Rights, Barrister Umar Gilani, Dr. Attaullah Watto, Dr. Ambreen Abbasi, Dr. Arshad Qayyum and Mr. Alam Zeib Khan. On this occasion, Sardar Ramesh Singh Arora, while discussing the background of the approval of the Punjab Sikh Marriage Act, emphasized the need to codify the family laws of the various communities living in the country while staying within the framework of the Constitution of Pakistan.
Director School of Law, Dr. Aziz ur Rehman, thanked the audience on this occasion and said that Quaid-e-Azam University School of Law is always engaged in research and understanding of various laws.
