A comprehensive two-day workshop focusing on patent drafting, copyright registration, and trademark filing commenced today, organized jointly by the Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU) School of Law and the Office of Research, Innovation, and Commercialization (ORIC).
The inaugural ceremony featured Ambassador Farukh Amil, Chairman of the Intellectual Property Organization of Pakistan, as the Chief Guest. In his remarks, Ambassador Amil highlighted the crucial role universities and academic institutions play in fostering an intellectual property (IP) and innovation culture within Pakistan. He stressed that focusing on creativity is essential for Pakistan’s progress in the knowledge economy era.
Prof. Dr. Zafar Nawaz Jaspal, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences at QAU, expressed his appreciation for the School of Law’s initiative in organizing this skill-oriented training session. He underscored the importance of equipping students and professionals with the necessary skills to navigate the complex landscape of intellectual property rights.
Welcoming the participants and distinguished guests, Prof. Dr. Aziz ur Rehman, Director of the School of Law, emphasized the relevance of IP for economic development. He pointed out that strengthening balance IP regime is vital for the country’s growth and competitiveness on the global stage.
The workshop aims to provide in-depth knowledge and practical skills to students, researchers, and professionals, enhancing their understanding and proficiency in the fields of patent drafting, copyright registration, and trademark filing. This initiative is expected to significantly contribute to the development of an innovation-driven economy in Pakistan.
